The Gmina Olkusz is an urban-and-rural municipality in the powiat Olkuski of the Lesser Poland Voivodeship in Poland . The seat of Powiat and municipality is the city of the same name with more than 36,000 inhabitants.
geography
The municipality is located between Krakow and Katowice .
history
The municipality became part of the Krakow Voivodeship in 1945 . From 1975 to 1998 it was part of the Katowice Voivodeship . In 1999 its main town got the seat of the powiat back and the municipality came to the Lesser Poland Voivodeship .

The national road DK94 runs through its main town . The Olkusz station is on the Tunel – Sosnowiec railway line , and the Hutnicza Szerokotorowa line also runs through the city.
