Christian Heinrich Gottlieb Köchy

Christian Heinrich Gottlieb Köchy (born April 24, 1769 in Schliestedt , † August 18, 1828 in Braunschweig ) was a German legal scholar .

Life

Köchy received his master's degree in law from the University of Leipzig around 1794 . Then he came to the University of Helmstedt , where he became a doctor of law doctorate was before settling in 1800 at the University of Jena habilitated . He then taught for three years in Jena as a lecturer before a 1803 reputation as a professor of jurisprudence with the rank of senior teacher at the school Mitauer Academia Petrina accepted. As early as 1801 he became a member of the Academy of Charitable Sciences in Erfurt .

In 1805, Köchy accepted an appointment as professor of Estonian and Finnish law at the University of Dorpat . He was also given the title of Hofrat there . He was Vice-Rector of the university six times . On May 5, 1817, he was dismissed from his position as professor after he and his colleagues had illegally obtained a doctorate in law from a wealthy Petersburg resident. In the following years he worked briefly as a private teacher in Königsberg , then as a language teacher and educator in St. Petersburg , Hamburg , London , Madrid and Paris . In Paris he also worked as a proofreader in Didot's printing house.

Köchy became a lawyer and procurator in Wolfenbüttel . However, he did not get along with the practical application of the law. He turned increasingly to writing, worked around 1824 for the Vogler publishing house in Halberstadt and still accepted a position as a proofreader at Voigt publishing house in Ilmenau in 1824 . In November 1825 he went to the Vieweg Verlag in Braunschweig in the same capacity .

Köchy was married in Dorpat for three years to the daughter of Wilhelm Friedrich and Charlotte von Hezel . The son Wilhelm Köchy emerged from the marriage.
