The MEKO-140 class is a warship class from Deutsche ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems AG . The class belongs to the MEKO series of ships and was developed by the Blohm + Voss shipyard in the 1970s .

history

The MEKO 140 class was the second in the MEKO ship series, after the MEKO 360 class. The concept envisaged ships the size of a frigate that could easily be customized for each customer.

The first three of the total of six ships of this class that were commissioned belonged to the Argentine Espora class , which was ordered on August 1, 1979. The class corresponded to the MEKO 140 A16 design . The ships were developed in Hamburg, but built in Argentina at the AFNE Rio Santiago shipyard in La Plata . Argentina classified the ships as corvettes . The first series included the ships:

  • ARA Espora (P-41)
  • ARA Rosales (P-42)
  • ARA Spiro (P-43)

From 1983 a second series of ships was built. The last two ships were only finally completed and delivered in 2001 due to budget problems on the part of Argentina.

  • ARA Parker (P-44)
  • ARA Robinson (P-45)
  • ARA Gómez Roca (P-46)
