MG3.0

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The MG3.0_Masterplan Mönchengladbach eV association was founded in 2010 on the initiative of the Mönchengladbach Architects with the aim of giving urban development in Mönchengladbach a new direction.

The Union

Together with citizens, companies and representatives of the city, the MG3.0 association, under the guidance of the British star architect Sir Nicholas Grimshaw, developed the urban master plan (urban planning) “MG3.0 - The Third Foundation”.

The purpose of the association is to finance, control the development and support the implementation of the master plan. The financial resources come from sponsorship funds made available by companies and citizens of the city.

The organs of the association are the board of directors and the general assembly. The board was elected from the founding members, the chairmen are Ernst Kreuder and Fritz Otten. The IHK Mittlerer Niederrhein is responsible for the operational management.

The association currently has around 40 members made up of companies and individuals.

In February 2019, the general meeting decided to put the association's activities on hold and to dissolve the association in the future, as it had achieved its goal.

planning phase

The MG3.0 master plan can be divided into two development phases.

First, there was a planning phase of around one year, in which the main features of the master plan were discussed and worked out in various dialogue and workshop events. The public was also able to participate by participating in the events or, alternatively, by reporting on the online dialogue platform.

The result of this process was the so-called “Charter for Urban Life”, which contains overarching objectives in the areas of economy, transport, identity and diversity. Building on this, five strategic goals were defined, which cover the topics of diversity and vitalization, networking and mobility, green and open space structures, interior development as well as identity and character. From this, three main areas of development developed within the overall area defined by the master plan, which were defined as the master plan sub-areas Gladbachtal, University axis and Rheydt and then divided into 39 specific short, medium and long-term projects.

The planning phase was officially completed at the end of 2012 and the results were presented to the mayor. On July 3, 2013, the MG3.0 master plan was approved by the Mönchengladbach City Council.

Implementation phase

Following the planning phase, the implementation phase began, which was set for a period of 10 to 15 years. The visions that have been developed are to be gradually implemented in concrete land use and development plans. The process is accompanied by the association's website, which collects current reports on each project defined by the master plan and thus provides an overview of the progress of the entire master plan. The urban development master plan MG3.0 is not a rigid construct. It can be supplemented with other relevant projects at any time.

In this phase, too, citizens can use the dialogue platform to get involved, express opinions and comment on developments. In addition, the “Mobile Think Tank” was set up, which deepens the ideas of the master plan at project level together with the citizens in further events. It is a joint project of the MG3.0 association, the Mönchengladbach city administration and the Niederrhein University of Applied Sciences (Competence Center Social Design ), which is funded by the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Building and Nuclear Safety .
