MaxPlanckForschung is the science magazine of the Max Planck Society and reports on current research work at its institutes. It aims to present scientific topics in a generally understandable way. The target group are "interested laypeople, [...] schoolchildren, teachers and journalists".
The magazine publishes reports from the categories: “To the point”, “ Physics & Astronomy ”, “ Biology & Medicine ”, “ Material & Technology ”, “ Environment & Climate ” and “ Culture and Society ”. In addition, each issue has a focus under the title “Focus”.
It appears every three months in German and English (as MaxPlanckResearch ) with a circulation of 85,000 copies (as of mid-2013) in the German and 10,000 copies in the English edition. The subscription is free; a download of the magazine is offered. Christina Beck is the editor, Peter Hergersberg and Helmut Hornung are responsible for the editorial team . Vogel Druck- und Medienservice GmbH is responsible for printing and distribution . The first issue appeared in 1999. The forerunner of the magazine was the magazine MPG-Spiegel , which was published from 1973 to 1998. Until 1987 Robert Gerwin was the editor-in-chief of the "MPG-Spiegel" .
Awards
- In 2012 the magazine won the silver medal in the Best of Corporate Publishing competition in the “Non-Profit / Associations / Institutions” category.
- In 2010 the magazine received an Award of Excellence at the first International Corporate Media Award .
Others
In 2008 the magazine printed a picture with old Chinese characters on the cover of “Focus China” . Although the picture had been made available by a picture agency for many years and used several times by other editorial offices, it was only after printing that it became apparent that the text read as follows: "We paid a lot and found young girls from northern China ". In the case of copies that have already been printed, the title page was pasted over, so that a defused version can be found in the archived PDF version.
