history
The company was founded in 1995 - initially as an engineering office IdEA - by Christoph Martens. In the first years of business activities, the focus was on the development of special biogas components. In 1997, for example, Martens invented the so-called air-support film cover for biogas plants. This technology has become the standard on the market and is used today by various manufacturers of biogas plants. With the establishment of MT-Energie GmbH & Co. KG, the company devoted itself increasingly to the construction of turnkey biogas plants from 2001. Since then, MT-Energie has developed into one of the leading providers in the field of biogas technology. By the end of 2012, around 580 biogas projects with a total installed capacity of around 350 megawatts had been implemented. In 2006, the company set up its first foreign branch in Italy . Today MT-Energie has various international agencies.
MT-Energie was originally based in Rockstedt in the Rotenburg (Wümme) district in Lower Saxony . In November 2008 the company moved to Zeven . A new company headquarters with office building, logistics area and production hall for gas processing plants was built on a 62,300 m² site.
In the first half of 2013, MT-Energie's business declined sharply. Sales in this period were EUR 16.8 million. Compared to the same period in the previous year, this was a decrease of around 60 percent. The operating result was minus € 16.1 million (same period last year: minus € 11.6 million). The consolidated result after taxes was minus € 19.8 million (same period in the previous year: minus € 12.0 million). The result for the first half of the year included one-time expenses of € 8.8 million, including risk provisions, value adjustments and provisions for restructuring expenses.
In order to improve the company's cost structure, extensive restructuring measures were initiated. As MT-Energie announced in a press release on September 16, 2013, overhead costs of around € 15 million should be saved in 2014. Personnel measures made up a significant part of the savings: around 80 jobs were cut at the main location in Zeven and in the foreign branches.
On October 8, 2014, the Tostedt District Court appointed a preliminary insolvency administrator for the assets of MT-Energie GmbH and MT-Biomethan GmbH.

Corporate social responsibility
Since the end of 2010, MT-Energie has provided the national archery team of the German Disabled Sports Association with its own warehouse and logistics center for preparation for the summer season. Among the participants are competitive athletes who have achieved excellent placements at World Championships and Paralympics in recent years.
