Rockstedt ( Low German Rockst ) is a district of the Lower Saxony municipality of Ostereistedt with around 400 inhabitants and is located in the southwest of the Selsingen municipality .

geography

Rockstedt lies on a slight ridge on the Oste , the level of which is used here for the closure of the eastern barrier near Neuhaus. The Rockstedt district covers around 1400  ha . The place is strongly agricultural .

history

The name von Rockstedt can be interpreted in different ways. One variant says that the name refers to a Kolk or Wodansrabendorf (from "de Rook" = raven ). On the other hand, the name could also denote a rye or fruit plant .

Documented Rockstedt was first mentioned 1,153th At that time, Bishop Hermann von Verden gave the tithe in Anderlingen and Rocstede to the Verden cathedral clergy. However, prehistoric finds of settlements , graves and objects made of flint, metal and clay indicate that the Oste region in and around Rockstedt was settled thousands of years ago.

On March 1, 1974, Rockstedt was incorporated into the neighboring municipality of Ostereistedt. Since August 1st, 1977 the place belongs to the district of Rotenburg (Wümme) .
