The MZ 1000 was a motorcycle that was produced by the German motorcycle manufacturer MZ from 2003 to 2008 . It was the largest and most powerful model from this manufacturer.
Basics
The machine was available in three versions:
- 1000 S (Sport), the basic model
- 1000 SF (Superfighter) with a smaller fairing and lower seat
- 1000 ST (Super Tourer), touring model with higher handlebars and reinforced rear (for case)
The MZ 1000 was presented in 2000, but series production only started in 2003. A total of around 1180 machines were manufactured during the production period. The market success of this motorcycle was, however, limited, despite the attractive pricing. The machine could not hold its own against the competition from BMW and the Japanese manufacturers. The high level of reliability could not compensate for the "rough engine running in the lower speed range", which was always criticized. Production was discontinued at the end of 2008, with the remainder still being offered in 2009.

Concept bike SFx
In 2006 MZ presented the SFx design study by Cologne designer Jens von Brauck, which is based on the MZ 1000 SF. Despite the great response from fans and the trade press, this study did not go into series production at MZ. At the customer's request, the Wedemärker motorcycle manufacturer “SK Bikes” converts the MZ 1000 SF to an SFx in small series.
