The M 45 were the first on submarines of the French Navy stationed SLBM ICBMs . The missiles were introduced in 1997 together with the first nuclear submarine of the new Triomphant class and each carried six TN-71 warheads with an explosive force of 100 kT each, according to other information up to 150 kT. The warheads were detonated during the last French nuclear tests in 1995/96 on Mururoa . M 45 represent a further development of the M 4. However , they are also equipped with components from the follow-up project M 51 . On the night of June 1 to June 2, 2004, an M45 was tested in a training and test flight. It was launched south of Brittany by Le Vigilant and, after a flight over the Atlantic Ocean, met its destination in French Guiana. On September 28, 2016, the M45 missiles were decommissioned.
