Maal (unit)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Maal , also mål , was a Swiss square measure and a square measure in Norway .

Norway

The mål, like some other measures, was a Danish unit, but differed slightly from this. So a Maal / mål could be different, as it depended on the amount of tunnel land. A tunnel land could be 5513.053 square meters or 3937.8956 square meters or 3037.9 square meters.

  • 1 time = 100 square rods = 9.8425 ares
  • 1 ton of land / tunnel land / tonde land = 4 Maal = 3937.8956 square meters.

Today Maal / mål is colloquially used synonymously with 1 decar (= 1000 square meters).

Switzerland

Maal was also a Swiss square measure. The field measure was based on the Swiss square fathoms and the type of use of the soil determined the size. The validity was limited to the canton of Graubünden .
