The Maartenskerk ( German  Martinskirche ; also called Protestantse Kerk , German Protestant Church ) is the Protestant parish church of Wemeldinge (municipality of Kapelle , province of Zeeland ) in the Netherlands .

The church is Rijksmonument under the numbers 23507 (nave) and 23508 (tower).

history

The Maartenskerk was built in the 11th century on a Vliedberg as a daughter church of the West Minster in Middelburg and is the oldest church in Zuid-Beveland . Findings in the masonry of today's Gothic church indicate a previous building in basilica forms.

The oldest part of the church is the 14th century tower . A single nave with a choir closed on five sides was added to it in the 15th century . Around 1500 a south aisle was added to the nave at the same height, creating the character of a hall church .

Furnishing

At the pulpit is Kanzeluhr received.
