Mabruk Zayid ( Arabic مبروك زايد, DMG Mabrūk Zāyid , according to the English transcription Mabrouk Zaid ; * February 11, 1979 in Riyadh ) is a former Saudi Arabian soccer goalkeeper .

Career

Zayid is between the posts at the most successful Saudi Arabian club of the last decade, Al-Ittihad . In 2004 the team won the AFC Champions League and in the following year they were able to defend the title of the best Asian club team. Zayid is considered to be one of the best goalkeepers in Asia and was among the top 10 in the 2005 Footballer of the Year election . He is aiming for a move abroad, which the restrictive Saudi authorities only allowed two players to do before. In 2015, Zayid ended his career.

National team

In the national team he was for a long time a substitute for goalkeeping legend Mohammad Al-Deayea , including at the 2002 World Cup, which came to an unpleasant end in the preliminary round after conceding 12 goals and without any point. Then Zayid succeeded Al-Deayea and played a very successful qualification for the 2006 World Cup in Germany, during which he only had to accept one goal. After Al-Deayea's comeback while Zayid was injured, both were in Saudi Arabia's World Cup squad . However, it was Zayid who this time was preferred in all three preliminary round games, even if Al-Deayea had received the shirt number 1 and Zayid came up as number 21.
