Yassir Saʿid al-Qahtani ( Arabic ياسر سعيد القحطاني, DMG Yāsir Saʿīd al-Qaḥṭānī , often Yasser Saeed Al-Kahtani after English transcription ; Born October 10, 1982 ) is a Saudi Arabian soccer player . With 45 goals scored, Qahtani ranks third on the record scorer list of the Saudi Arabian national team .

Career

Yassir al-Qahtani made his first appearance in the first division of Saudi Arabia in the 2000/01 season with the newly promoted al-Qadisiya al-Chubar . There he developed into one of the most successful strikers in the country. In 2005, the top team al-Hilal brought him to their team for a record transfer fee. After six years for al-Hilal, al-Qahtani moved to Al Ain in the United Arab Emirates in the summer of 2011 . After only a year al-Qahtani left Al Ain and joined his former association al-Hilal . He is still active for this club today.

After the Saudi Arabian national team was eliminated in the preliminary round of the 2002 World Cup , al-Qahtani got his chance when rebuilding the team. At the 2004 Asian Football Championship - his first international tournament - al-Qahtani scored two goals, but was eliminated with the team in the preliminary round. During qualifying for the 2006 World Cup finals , the striker also scored twice and was part of Saudi Arabia's squad . In the finals, he scored a 2-2 win over Tunisia . In April 2012 he announced his resignation from the national team.

At the 2007 Asian Football Cup , al-Qahtani led Saudi Arabia as captain to the final, where the Saudis lost 1-0 to Iraq. Together with the Iraqi Yunis Mahmud and the Japanese Naohiro Takahara , he was the top scorer of the tournament with four goals. In the same year he was named Asia's Footballer of the Year .
