The Mach Loop , also known as the Machynlleth Loop or CAD West among spotters , is a system of valleys in the Welsh mountainous region of Snowdonia in the United Kingdom known for being used as a low-level training area for military aircraft .

The valley system is 8 miles east of Barmouth and is between the towns of Dolgellau in the north and Machynlleth in the south. It belongs to Low Flying Area 7 (LFA7), which almost completely covers Wales. Among the aircraft that use the area include Tornado , Typhoon , C-130J , Airbus A400M and Hawk of the Royal Air Force , and the US Air Force in RAF Lakenheath stationed F-15E Strike Eagle .
