Machinarium is a 2D point-and-click adventure of the Czech developer Amanita Design and appeared in October 2009 for Microsoft Windows , Linux and Mac OS X .
action
On a distant machine planet, the little robot Josef finds himself in individual parts in a junkyard outside of Machinarium City. After finding his missing pieces and assembling himself, his journey takes him back to town. In search of the answer to what happened, he uncovered the preparations for a bomb attack. A vicious robot brotherhood is wreaking havoc across the city and plans to destroy the mayor's tower in the center of town. Josef can prevent this in the last second and at the same time finds his great robot love Berta again.
Game principle and technology
At the beginning of the adventure, the basic elements of controlling Josef are explained in the respective language. The game largely dispenses with the classic interface of an adventure game. The controls are designed for Josef's ability to compress and stretch. Machinarium continues to do without language completely. Only some of the oil containers that appear in the game are labeled Oil in English . Dialogues with the city dwellers take place with gestures , noises and simply drawn animated film sequences that are shown in a thought bubble.
The game was originally implemented entirely in Adobe Flash . For the Definite Edition , which was released in 2017, the game was rewritten and this new version is based on a proprietary DirectX engine.
Production notes
The soundtrack for the game was composed by Tomáš Dvořák (also known under the pseudonym Floex ). As part of the Machinarium Pirate Amnesty campaign initiated by the developer , the composer Tomáš Dvořák composed another piece of music entitled Pirate Amnesty and offered it free of charge.

reception

"Machinarium shows what kind of a comparatively unknown studio is possible if you stay true to your creative line and create your own worlds."
“Anyone who has just a bit of interest in seeing computer games really developed further (and having a lot of fun doing it) [...] has to support innovative products such as Machinarium. In the end, we all benefit from it. "
“Machinarium has almost everything to bewitch an adventure fan properly: original puzzles, lovely graphics and a nice hero. But I found some puzzles a bit too crisp. […] What a shame! Because basically Machinarium is a small, fine adventure insider tip for me. "
