The Macintosh Quadra 650 , originally introduced as the Macintosh Centris 650 , was a personal computer developed by Apple Computer and sold from February 1993 to September 1994 . The Centris 650 was introduced, together with the smaller Centris 610 , as the successor to the Macintosh IIci , IIvi and Quadra 700 and should establish the new middle class of Apple computers. A few months after the launch, however, Apple decided to follow the example of other computer manufacturers and name product lines according to target groups, with Quadra targeting the business segment, LC the education sector and Performa the market for home users.

In September 1994, production of the Quadra 650 was discontinued without an explicit successor, but the recently introduced Power Macintosh 7100 also has the IIvx design, the same target group and was available in the same price range.

Models

Standard equipment of all Centris 650 models was onboard video with a proprietary DB-15 connection ( VGA support only via adapter), 3 NuBus slots, a processor direct slot , two ADB and two serial (printer, modem) interfaces and an external SCSI connection. The four SIMM slots support 4, 8, 16 and 32 MB SIMMs, so that the maximum memory configuration reached 132 or 136 MB, depending on the RAM size of the basic configuration. The models with Ethernet support also had an AAUI connection.

When it was introduced, System 7.1 was included as the standard system and is also the oldest supported Apple operating system.
