Mackensen (noble family)
von Mackensen and Mackensen von Astfeld are the names of a German noble family in two lines with common origins but different coats of arms.
history
The family is mentioned for the first time with Albrecht von Makkonhusen (born 1183) and comes from the Solling , where there is also the place Mackensen . Remains of a castle probably go back to this family. There are no documents from the 15th century that establish the suspected agnatic connection to this Albrecht.
The Mackensen family does not appear in a document until 1577 with Lorentz Mackensen (* around 1495, † after 1577) in Badenhausen near Einbeck . Ludwig Mackensen (* 1788, † 1882) is the progenitor of today's Mackensen von Astfeld and von Mackensen lines . The Mackensen von Astfeld line goes back to his son Carl Mackensen 1813-1902 on Astfeld in the Goslar district , who received the Braunschweig nobility on May 7, 1888. Ludwig's grandson - the royal Prussian colonel and wing adjutant and later General Field Marshal August Mackensen - received the Prussian nobility on January 27, 1899 .
