history

Mackensen Church

The first written mention of the place Mackanhusen is in the Corveyer traditions from the period 826-876. In the Middle Ages the place was in the Suilbergau . The gentlemen of Mackenhusen were wealthy here. They were at the service of the Counts of Dassel , who resided in the neighboring Hunnesrück Castle. Konrad von Mackenhusen was a canon in the Gandersheim monastery . Mackensen found himself repeatedly at a political borderline. While it belonged to the county of Dassel, the county of Everstein bordered to the north, and when Mackensen in the Hochstift Hildesheim was administered by the Office of Hunnesrück, this was enclosed by the Principality of Braunschweig-Wolfenbüttel . The church on the main street of the village (today L580), which has existed for centuries, is therefore a St. Christopher's Church, where travelers heading north could pray for protection. In 1717 it was rebuilt.

On February 1, 1972, part of the dissolved community-free area of Solling (district of Einbeck) with then fewer than ten inhabitants was incorporated. On March 1, 1974 Mackensen was incorporated into the city of Dassel.
