The Mackenzie Peninsula is the steep and rocky peninsula that forms the western end of Laurie Island in the South Orkney Archipelago .
It was discovered and roughly mapped in 1821 by the British sealer captain George Powell (1794-1824) on the Dove and the American navigator Nathaniel Palmer on the Hero . A detailed cartographic survey was made in 1903 by participants of the Scottish National Antarctic Expedition under the direction of William Speirs Bruce . Bruce named the peninsula after his wife Jessie, nee Mackenzie.
