Macrophya (Macrophya) alboannulata is a plant wasp from the family of sawfly (Tenthredinidae).
features
The species reaches a body length of 9 to 11 millimeters. The black sawfly has a distinctive cream-colored pattern on the legs. A narrow white band runs across the front part of the abdomen . The plant wasps have two small cream-colored spots in the upper rear area of the head. In addition, cream-colored lines run along the sides of the thorax . In the back of the thorax there are usually two smaller cream-colored spots. There are very similar species within the Macrophya genus .
distribution
The species is widespread in Europe. It is also found in the British Isles. The species is absent on the Iberian Peninsula. In Asia, its range extends over the Middle East (Iran) to China.
Way of life
The sawfly fly from mid-April to July. They are mostly found at the edges of the forest. The larvae feed on the leaves of various types of elder , especially black elder ( Sambucus nigra ).
