Macroplata ( Gr . = "Large plate") was a representative of the plesiosaurs from the Lower Jurassic . The animals were 4.5 to 5 meters long, had a 60 to 70 centimeter long skull, with a narrow, crocodile-like long snout and a neck that was twice the length of the skull and was supported by 29 short cervical vertebrae . The name for the genus was the plate-like enlarged shoulder blades.

Two species have been described, the type Macroplata tenuiceps from the Hettangium , the almost complete skeleton of which was found in Warwickshire in Central England, and Macroplata longirostris from the Toarcium of Whitby in Yorkshire .
