Macroscytus brunneus is a bug from the family of earth bugs (Cydnidae).

features

The bugs are 8.0 to 8.3 millimeters long and are glossy dark brown to black in color. In contrast to the similar genera Cydnus and Sehirus , the tip of the tylus (forehead wedge) is not enclosed by the cheeks. The first two parts of the antennae are lighter than the basic color of the body, the second part being longer than the third. On the sides of the pronotum , the bugs have 8 to 12 bristles. The scutellum is about three quarters of the length of the abdomen and has a slight ridge. The membranes of the hemielytres are light-colored and extend somewhat beyond the end of the abdomen when at rest.

Distribution and way of life

The species is distributed from the Mediterranean region through the Ethiopis and Orientalis to China. In Europe it occurs in Portugal, Spain, France, Switzerland, Italy, the states of the former Yugoslavia, Albania, Macedonia, Greece and Cyprus.

Macroscytus brunneus inhabited dry habitats. You can find them either walking on the ground or when sucking on the roots of herbaceous plants.
