Madanapalle ( Telugu : మదనపల్లె Madanapalle [ ˈmʌd̪ʌnʌpʌlːe ]) is a city in the Chittoor district in the state of Andhra Pradesh in India with 136,000 inhabitants (2011 census).

It became known worldwide as the birthplace of Jiddu Krishnamurti (1895–1986), the “theosophical savior” initially (from 1909) propagated by the theosophists around Annie Besant as a “ world teacher ” and, since 1929, a freelance spiritual speaker and writer. The original melody of the Indian national anthem, written by Rabindranath Tagore, was set to music in the Theosophical College of Besant.
