Madeleine Schlumberger

Madeleine Schlumberger , stage name: Marie d'ailleurs ("Marie from Elsass ") (* 1900 in Alsace ; † 1981 ), was a French painter.

She created paintings , collages and manuscripts as well as miniature scenes, called “dream boxes” (“Boîtes à rêves”), which she put together from old objects over the course of decades. Two museums have dedicated their own space to her:

  • The Alexis Forel Museum in Morges, Switzerland set up the space dedicated to her in 2006, in which u. a. a cabinet of curiosities, living rooms from old times and the theater of Ludwig II of Bavaria are on display.
  • The Paul Delouvrier Museum, which opened in 2007, is located in Evry Cathedral (architect: Mario Botta) near Paris. Its main subject is the piety of the common people.
