Madhyamgram ( Bengali মধ্যমগ্রাম Madhyamgrām ) is a city in the Indian state of West Bengal with around 196,000 inhabitants (2011 census). It is located in the Uttar 24 Pargana district and is part of the Kolkata agglomeration .

Madhyamgram has a gender ratio of 984 women per 1000 men and thus a common surplus of men for India. The city had a literacy rate of 89.60% in 2011 (men: 92.69%, women: 86.46%). Literacy is thus far above the national average and that of West Bengal. Almost 89.4% of the population are Hindus , approx. 9.8% are Muslims , approx. 0.5% are Christians and approx. 0.4% did not indicate any religious affiliation or practiced other religions. 8.3% of the population are children under 6 years of age. 38.3% live in slums and slums.

Infrastructure

The city has a train station that connects it to Kolkata and the rest of India.
