Critics praised her vocal range, which reached up to the four-bowed D. In 1936 she was discovered by singing teacher Mario Podestà and trained as a coloratura soprano. Due to the war, she only made her debut on December 7, 1944 as Gilda in Rigoletto at the Paris Opéra-Comique . In the following years she appeared in the operas Die Zauberflöte as Queen of the Night, in Les Contes d'Hoffmann as Olympia, in Il barbiere di Siviglia as Rosina and in Les pêcheurs de perles as Leyla. The role of Lakmé in the opera of the same name by Léo Delibes was considered her favorite role.

At the age of 17 she married the Englishman Alan Smith, who died in a car accident shortly after the Second World War. She herself died on 10 December 1960 in Paris to cancer , shortly before the 1500th performance of Lakmé at the Opéra-Comique, which had prepared the event for her 42nd birthday.
