Madonna and Child in Châteaubriant

The sculpture Madonna and Child in the parish church of St-Jean-Baptiste in Châteaubriant , a French commune in the Loire-Atlantique department of the Pays de la Loire region , was created in the 14th century. In 1978 the Gothic sculpture was added to the list of listed objects ( Base Palissy ) in France as Monument historique .

The limestone sculpture is 1.53 meters high and colored. Mary carries the baby Jesus on her left arm, who has turned his face towards his mother. The many folds of Maria's dress give her appearance a fullness. Maria wears a crown on her head, her hands are missing.
