Madonna and Child (Saarburg)
The sculpture Madonna and Child in the St. Laurentius Church in Saarburg , a town in the Trier-Saarburg district in Rhineland-Palatinate , was created at the end of the 15th century. The wooden Gothic sculpture is 1.20 meters high. It was new 1923 Focus .
Maria has a calm, mournful look, the neck area is high and slightly stiff. The folds of the coat, over which the long, curly hair falls, has animated folds. The crescent moon at her feet hides a leg. With her right hand Mary grasps one of the feet of the baby Jesus , who is sitting on her arm without clothes and holding a grape in her hands.
