Mads Gilbert

Mads Gilbert (born June 2, 1947 in Porsgrunn ) is a Norwegian doctor and political activist . He is a professor of medicine at Tromsø University and a member of the Rødt socialist party . In 1999, he led the resuscitation measures at Anna Bågenholm , in which up to 100 doctors and assistants were involved. During the Israeli military action in the Gaza Strip in 2008/2009 ( Operation Cast Lead ), he stayed there to operate on Palestinian war victims and gave numerous interviews for international media in which he called for support for the Palestinians. In his opinion, the Israeli army used the new type of weapon Dense Inert Metal Explosives (DIMEs) there.

Gilbert's positions have been publicly controversial since he described the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001 as justified in an interview .

In 2009 Gilbert was awarded the Fritt-Ord Prize of Honor.
