Mads Nielsen (poet)

Mads Nielsen (born February 27, 1879 in Langå , † December 8, 1958 in Åbyhøj ) was a Danish writer and pharmacist .

Life

Nielsen studied pharmacy and was a pharmacist in Vester Skerning on Funen from 1932 and in Kolding from 1943 . He made his debut in 1910 with a collection of religious and national poems under the title Vej og Sti . The volumes of poetry På Kirkesti (1918), Dagene (1925) and Hjemmene synger (1936) followed. He also published Breve fra Grøftekanten (1923) and Undervejs (1944). His memories under the title Den gamle Apoteker fortæller (1956) are of cultural and historical interest .

Nielsen became popular in Denmark with the poem En Lærke letted, og tusind fulgte , which he wrote in 1945 on the occasion of the liberation of the country from German occupation. Some of his poems were set to music by Nancy Dalberg , otherwise his poetry has only survived in the songbooks of the Christian youth movement.
