Importance and Economy

Trade with Myanmar (Burma), not always under the control of the customs authorities on both sides, is a major source of income for the population. Since the roads are better developed, tourism has played a stronger role.

The neighborhood to the Golden Triangle , one of the world's largest transshipment centers for drugs, is of dubious importance .
