Sakarin Krue-On

Sakarin Krue-On ( Thai : สา ค ริน ท ร์ เครือ อ่อน ; born January 7, 1965 in Mae Hong Son , Thailand ) is a Thai artist. He is Professor and Director of the Thai Art Department at Silpakorn University Bangkok . He became internationally known as a participant in the 50th Biennale di Venezia 2003 with an art program entitled Dreams and Conflicts . At the documenta 12 in Kassel 2007 he took part with the chalk drawing Nang Fa and the Terraced Rice Fields Art Project , which already ensured a strong media presence in the run-up to the exhibition.

Sakarin's art consists primarily of installations, murals, videos and objects that he develops in a team with several artists and technicians. He takes traditional elements and places them in modern media and presentations. In 1999 he placed three rollable sculptures in the art action Lotus Pod in the boulevard Thanon Ratchadamnoen in Bangkok as part of the Bangkok Art Project, in order to give people the opportunity to "move their own story."

In 2000, Sakarin Krue-On had his first solo exhibition in Bangkok at the popular About Café & Studio , which essentially consisted of The Temple painted in the Thai chalk technique on the wall of the café. Nang Fa (“Angel”) at documenta 12 in the stairwell of the Neue Galerie in Kassel is based on this drawing .

At the Biennale di Venezia 2003 he presented his work to the European public for the first time. His Wall of Dreams and Mekala and Ramsura were created under the title Dreams and Conflicts . Sakarin Krue-On was one of seven artists from Thailand who were presented for the first time at the Biennale this year.

The Terraced Rice Fields Art Project at documenta 12 is an outdoor work by Sakarin Krue-On in Bergpark Wilhelmshöhe , where terraces for wet rice cultivation are laid in front of Wilhelmshöhe Castle and cultivated according to traditional models.
