The Mae Nam Mae Klong ( Thai : แม่น้ำ แม่ กลอง , pronunciation: [mɛ̂ː náːm mɛ̂ː klɔːŋ] ), or just Mae Klong , is a river in the western part of the central region of Thailand . The river begins at the confluence of the Khwae Noi and Khwae Yai at Kanchanaburi . It later flows into the Gulf of Thailand in Samut Songkhram Province .

The river is 140 kilometers long.

In the 1960s, the upper reaches of the river up to the provincial capital Kanchanaburi was renamed Khwae Yai ( แม่น้ำ แคว ใหญ่ , "Great Tributary"), as the famous bridge over the Kwai over the Mae Klong and not over the river Khwae (Kwai ) led.
