The Mae Nam Khwae Noi ( Thai : แม่น้ำ แคว น้อย , pronunciation: [mɛ̂ː náːm kʰwɛː nɔ́ːj] , "small tributary"), or just Khwae Noi , is a river in Kanchanaburi Province in western Thailand .
The Khwae Noi is fed from the Khao Laem reservoir in the district ( Amphoe ) Sangkhlaburi near the border with Burma. The reservoir is completely protected by the Khao Laem National Park . A little further downstream, the Khwae Noi flows through the Sai Yok National Park .
After a good 150 km in a south-easterly direction, it joins the Khwae Yai at the provincial capital Kanchanaburi to form Mae Klong .
Attractions
For tourists, a train ride is offered along the old railway line of the " Death Railway ", which runs largely along the Khwae Noi. The journey starts every weekend in Bangkok at Hua Lamphong Central Station . A short stop in Kanchanaburi at the " Bridge on the River Kwai ", then a scenic drive over the wobbly route, partly supported by old wooden scaffolding, to the terminus of Nam Tok . A picturesque waterfall can be visited nearby.
