Magas (son of Ptolemy III)

Magas ( Greek  Μάγας ; * around 240 BC; † around 222/221 BC) was a prince of the Hellenistic Ptolemaic dynasty in Egypt .

Magas was one of the younger sons of King Ptolemy III. and Berenike II ; it was named after his maternal grandfather, Magas of Cyrene . After the death of Seleucus III. 223 BC He had led a mission to Asia Minor . Shortly after his brother Ptolemy IV came to power in 222 BC. Magas was murdered with his mother and his uncle Lysimachos by the court minister Sosibios . The act was apparently done in agreement with Ptolemy IV, as Magas was very popular in the army.
