Sosibios (father)

Sosibios ( Greek Σωσίβιος) was a politician of the Ptolemaic Empire in Egypt. He came from Alexandria and distinguished himself as an athlete from an early age.

Life

Sosibios was the son of a Dioscurides. His children were Ptolemy , Sosibios and Arsinoe, who lived from 215 to 214 BC. Was the owner of the priesthood of the Kanephore . Still under Ptolemy III. Sosibios won at the Ptolemies in Diaulos (endurance run), at the Panathenaies in wrestling and in the Isthmian and Nemean games in chariot races. Sosibios made a significant contribution to securing the succession of King Ptolemy IV .
