Werner Huss

Werner Huss (born September 8, 1936 in Schwabmünchen ) is a German ancient historian .

Werner Huss received his doctorate in Catholic theology in 1967 and completed his habilitation in 1975 with the thesis Investigations on Ptolemy IV's Foreign Policy for Ancient History in Munich. From 1978 until his retirement in 2001 he taught as professor of ancient history at the University of Bamberg . He is co-editor of the Munich contributions to papyrus research and ancient legal history .

Huss' main areas of research are Punic ( Carthaginian ) history, Hellenistic history, especially that of Ptolemaic Egypt, and the history of ancient religions . Werner Huss is an internationally renowned specialist in the history of Carthage and the history of Hellenism . His most important works are the history of the Carthaginians and Egypt in the Hellenistic period 332-30 BC. Chr.

Werner Huss is the father of the Romanist Bernhard Huss .
