The Magellan Thrush ( Turdus falcklandii ) is a songbird from the thrush family (Turdidae) and the genus of the real thrushes . It is not one of the endangered species .

description

The gray-brown bird has a yellow beak and gray iris rings . It reaches a body length of 24 to 26 centimeters, a wing length of approx. 14 centimeters and a weight of 75 to 85 grams.

habitat

In addition to the Falkland Islands , Chile and Patagonia are also part of the distribution area.

Subspecies

Two subspecies are described, the actual Magellan Thrush ( Turdus falcklandii magellanicus ) which occurs in the south of Argentina and Chile , and the Falkland Thrush ( Turdus falcklandii falcklandii ) from the Falkland Islands .

nutrition

The Magellan Thrush feeds mainly on fruits and berries, but also to a lesser extent on worms and insects.

Reproduction

The female lays two to three eggs , which are incubated for about two weeks before the young birds hatch.
