Maggie Jones (musician)

Maggie Jones (* around 1900 in Texas ; † after 1934) was a popular American blues singer. It was known as "the Texas Nightingale" (the Texas nightingale).

Life

Maggie Jones first appeared in New York City in 1922 . In 1924 she recorded two tracks ( Four Flushing Papa / Jealous Mama Blues ) for Columbia Records , accompanied by Lemuel Fowler . She joined the TOBA circuit. In 1926 she was with Clarence Muse and sang in the Hall Johnson choir. In 1928 she dangled with the Blackbirds Show, where she appeared with Bill Robinson .

Eventually Maggie Jones returned to Texas. In Fort Worth she had her own revue . In 1934 their trail is lost.

38 recordings by Maggie Jones have survived. The first was released on Black Swan Records in 1923 , the last was on October 3, 1926. The majority of the recordings were released by Columbia. She was accompanied by such well-known colleagues as Louis Armstrong , Fletcher Henderson , Charlie Green and Elmer Snowden .
