Maginus is an old lunar crater in the southern highlands of the front of the moon southeast of the well-known Tycho crater. The outer rim of the crater is heavily eroded with overlays from later impacts. The inner surface is relatively flat.

The crater was officially named by the IAU in 1935 after the Italian mathematician and astronomer Giovanni Antonio Magini .
