The Mahogany Bluff ( English for mahogany cliff , in Argentina Cerro Pampa , in Chile Cerro Dubos ) is a 590 m high cliff on Vega Island in the Antarctic Weddell Sea . The cliff rises 8 km southwest of Cape Gordon and forms the east side of Pastorizo Bay .
The UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee named it in 1964 for its color, reminiscent of mahogany wood . The namesake of the Argentine name is the research ship Pampa , which was used in an Argentine Antarctic expedition that took place from 1947 to 1948. The namesake of the Chilean name is Iván Dubos, participant of the 18th Chilean Antarctic Expedition (1963–1964).
