Mahuza

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Mahuza (in Hebrew and Aramaic sources, especially the Jewish ones : Machuza or Machoza ) is another name used by ancient Jews for the historical city of Seleukia-Ctesiphon across from the Tigris (now in Iraq ), which housed a Talmudic academy and the was also the seat of the exile .

After Chisda's death, the Surah rapidly lost its importance. Rabba bar Nachmani , Josef and Abbaje taught in Pumbedita ; she was followed by Raba (270–352), who moved the academy to his native city of Mahuza.

The ruins of the Taq-e Kisra palace are near Mahuza .
