The Main-Spitze first appeared on October 3, 1877 under the name Anzeiger for Rüsselsheim and the surrounding area . The newspaper was founded by the book printer Heinrich Hohmann, who initially also took on all tasks from editor to printer. In 1908 the Pfeifer family bought the Main lace and shaped it in the decades that followed. During the Second World War , the Main-Spitze had to discontinue its publication in 1943 and after the end of the war could initially only appear as an official gazette. In 1949 the Pfeifer family of publishers received a license to publish the newspaper. Gradually, the Main-Spitze established itself again as a reporting daily newspaper. In 1972 the Main tip was taken over by the Mainz publishing house (today's Rhein Main publishing group ).
