Main is an impact crater on the northern hemisphere of the Earth's moon near the North Pole. Its southern edge is connected to the Challis crater to the south, and the crater floor connects the craters, which are located on one level, through a narrow gap in the ramparts. North-northwest is the combination of Gioja and Byrd craters .
Main originally consists of three craters, which were combined into an essentially circular formation with bulges in the west and northeast due to the flooding of their interior with lava . The same lava flows are also responsible for connecting the Main and Challis . The remaining crater rim of Main is a low slope that is almost on the same level as the surrounding area. A small and roughly bowl-shaped crater, which lacks the western edge, covers the eastern edge. The crater floor is almost flat and is pitted by a number of mini-craters, which extend in the form of a ribbon from the southwest to the northeast across the interior of the crater.
