The Main Bay ( English for main bay ) is a bay on the south coast of Bird Island off the north-western end of South Georgia . It forms the western branch of the Jordan Cove .
According to the UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee of 1961, the name goes back to biologists from the Falkland Islands Dependencies Survey who worked here from 1956.
