Main Street Cottage

The Main Street Cottage is a residential building in the Scottish city of Port Charlotte on the Hebridean island of Islay . The building is on the west side of Main Street at the south end of town. The building had been included in the Scottish List of Monuments in Category B as part of an ensemble since July 20, 1971 . In 2006 the classification was changed and the West End Cottage was added as a single monument in Category C. The Clark Cottage is another listed residential building around 50 m to the south.

The building directly on the street dates from the early 19th century. The exact time of construction is not known. West End Cottage is traditionally built on an area of ​​11 × 7 m 2 . The property extends about 50 m to the west and ends with a wall on the parallel street. A gable roof covered with slate shingles sits on the ground floor . The facade is plastered using the traditional Harling technique. To the south, Clark Cottage is adjoined by the listed residential building Laggan View , which is built on two floors and towers above it.
