The Mainzer Kammerspiele are a private theater founded in Mainz in 1986 . The theater emerged from the collaboration of several professional freelance actors. The Mainzer Kammerspiele now cover a broad spectrum of contemporary drama with their program .

Over 200 performances take place on the stage in Fort Malakoff Park per season . An average of seven own productions premieres each year. Nine ensembles are currently working at the Mainzer Kammerspiele and regularly present their performances there. The spectrum of productions ranges from traditional as well as experimental spoken theater to contemporary ballet and current revues to musicals for children. According to the Kammerspiele, a particular focus is on the presentation of contemporary authors, who are given first and world premieres here, as well as on their own work.

The Kammerspiele program is complemented by performances by well-known artists and ensembles at festivals (puppet theater festival, children's theater festival), special guest performances ( Chanson de Luxe ) and cooperation with other initiatives and institutions. Among other things, parts of the puppet theater festival No Strings Attached - puppet theater & more take place on the stage of the Kammerspiele.

The Mainzer Kammerspiele receive grants from the state of Rhineland-Palatinate and the city of Mainz, which cover a large part of the fixed costs, such as rent, administration and advertising. They are also supported by a development association and some sponsors.

The individual ensembles finance themselves and their productions exclusively from the entrance fees. This includes all costs for set design, props and costumes, advertising material and performance rights, as well as the fees for actors, direction, choreography, music, technology and other things.

The theater is run by a permanent management team, which is supported by volunteers, interns and the members of the ensembles. A total of around 90 people are currently working at the Mainzer Kammerspiele.

The Mainzer Kammerspiele are visited by around 30,000 guests per season. In addition to the public theater, it is also possible to rent the theater for events of all kinds.
