The Maison de Balzac is a Parisian writer's museum in the 16th arrondissement ( Passy ) and is dedicated to the person of Honoré de Balzac (1799-1850), who lived and wrote here for a long time. The house on rue Raynouard with a large garden is Balzac's only surviving Parisian residence. Balzac wrote The Human Comedy here from 1840–1847 . Visitors can see original editions, manuscripts, and paintings owned by the writer, including an 1842 daguerreotype by Louis-Auguste Bisson . The house has been classified as a monument historique since 1913 , and the associated garden was entered on the list of monuments in 1944.

There are two other writers' museums in Paris, namely the Maison de Victor Hugo and the Musée de la Vie romantique , which commemorates George Sand .

The library includes 23,000 media also relating to Theophile Gautier .

The museum can be reached via metro stations Passy ( line 6 ) and La Muette ( line 9 ).

The house was renovated in 2018/19 and has been open to visitors again since July 2019.
