Mayakovskaya ( Russian Маяковская ) is a metro station of the Saint Petersburg Metro on line 3 and at the same time a transfer station to the Ploshchad Vosstaniya metro station on line 1 . The underground station was put into operation on November 3, 1967 as part of the first construction phase of the line.

Mayakovskaya is, as usual for metro stations in Saint Petersburg , laid deep underground, the platform is located 51 meters below the boulevard Nevsky Prospect, immediately west of the place of the uprising and the important Moscow railway station . The Mayakovskaya metro station is connected to the latter by direct access through the eastern entrance vestibule, which also serves as the entrance and exit of the Ploshchad Voststanija metro station. There is also a separate entrance to the west. Coming from the Mayakovskaya platform, this exit can be reached via a continuous escalator from the platform to the ground-level counter hall, which in turn was built into an existing building on the south side of Nevsky Prospect when the underground station was built. The building is a five-story house from 1848, which has also housed the upscale Nevsky Atrium shopping center since 2006 .

The name of the subway station is primarily borrowed from Mayakovsky Street (Russian Улица Маяковского ), which branches off from Nevsky Prospect opposite the western entrance vestibule of the station. However, since this street was named after the early Soviet futurist poet Vladimir Mayakovsky in 1936, the life and work of the artist was also taken as a theme in the architectural design of the subway station. In the counter hall of the western vestibule, a relief composition on the supporting pylon is particularly noticeable, which contains a portrait of Mayakowski and well-known quotations from his poems.

The platform hall is more functional, like all other stations on the Nevsko-Vasileostrovskaya line in the first construction phase, Mayakovskaya is a "closed type" station with automatic platform screen doors that separate the waiting area from the platform area and only open for the duration of the train stop. However, the hall is characterized by a wall cladding that is unique in the Petersburg Metro, which is made of dark red tiles in the manner of mosaic blocks. Near the escalator there are two symbolic images of Mayakovsky on the wall at both ends of the platform, which are composed of similar tiles of white and black paint.
