Majestic 12

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Majestic-12 , Operation Majestic Twelve (sometimes abbreviated MJ-12 or MJ-XII or also called Majic-12 ) denotes an ufological conspiracy theory .

It is said to be the code name of a US secret committee that was supposedly founded in 1947 after the Roswell incident by an executive order from President Harry S. Truman . The aim is to have been an investigation of extraterrestrial space travel, the results of which should nevertheless be covered up from the public.

In 1987 the ufologists Stanton T. Friedman and William Moore claimed to have come into possession of corresponding secret documents from 1952. This sparked an intense debate about their authenticity. As part of the Freedom of Information Act inquiries made to the National Archives so far , no files could be found, only a memorandum from Robert Cutler to Nathan F. Twining dated July 14, 1954, the authenticity of which has been questioned.

The existence of this secret committee is denied by the United States government, which states that the documents used to prove the existence of Majestic-12 are "crude forgeries." The FBI was investigating how one of the "top secret" documents could get to the public. However, the investigation was closed when it was found that the document, in fact, never existed. The documents in question are now not only printed in numerous literature, but are also accessible on the Internet. The FBI has published the results of the investigation into documents related to the Majestic-12 Committee on its website. A large part of the total of 22 pages is marked with the note “wrong” ( bogus ). Even Philip J. Klass looked at the documents and doubted their authenticity.

Influences on popular culture

This conspiracy theory largely inspired the main themes of the TV series The X-Files and Dark Skies . Furthermore, the Majestic 12 conspiracy appears in a significant way in the PC game Deus Ex and its successor Deus Ex: Invisible War . Majestic-12 was parodied by the political satirist Christopher Buckley in his novel Little Green Men . In Serial Experiments Lain , reference is also made to 12 Majestic.

In the song Aliens exist by blink-182 , the last line is "Twelve Majestic lies", with which the band refers to the alleged document.

In the Netflix series The Umbrella Academy , the Majestic-12 are also mentioned in season 2.
